Roots – Five Minute Fridays

There has been dryness in the past.  A dryness that has shrivelled the roots resting deep in my soul.  A dryness that could be seen in anger, bitterness resentment.

There has been a desert place where roots seem to not exist because there no life seems to grow.  But isn’t that the place where roots must go their deepest.  Isn’t that the place where the roots will just move and move and move and stretch and reach until they find what they are desperately seeking?

I used to think that my desert time – my time when I was furthest from God was such as sinful way of living. I used to think that I would be condemned for such an attitude of not sensing His presence, of being dry and parched and so far away from the thirst quenching water of His spirit

But it is grace that shows me, that points downward where I can see that the roots reach and stretch for the sources of water they so desperately crave – because it doesn’t need much just the scent of it, just the scent of water so that the stump of what is dry can bud forth and bloom like a new sapling (Job 14)

It is grace that has me realizing that the desert times – they bring me lower and lower and lower until I can catch of whiff of that life giving water and that has me going deeper in connection and relationship with its source.

I thank God for these dessert times for they make the roots take hold deeper and lower – I thank God that these desert times drive me to my knees.

I am linking up with Lisa Jo Baker today and her Five Minute Fridays.  One topic, 5 minutes, straight writing.

  1. Felt like I was right there in your writing -because I known this feeling.

God Bless You & hoping to have you visit sometime.

  2. Ohhhh, this is beautiful. Isn’t it amazing that our God uses our lowest times to ground us and then pull us into His arms on high?!

  3. For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland. Isaiah 43:19

  4. Stopping by from Five Minute Friday, I love your post…really spoke to me.

Hugs Tonya! So proud of you – look at all the people you continue to touch, inspire, connect with, and reach out to! You speak wonderful truths so eloquently and continue to inspire others even through your desert times.

  8. Fantastic post.

  9. This is one brilliant shining piece of writing from you my friend. It’s amazing how we reflect on the dry times and sometimes, when we’re lucky we do see that those knee driven moments of reaching were just when He was closing in on us. So very thankful for you and your words this morning.

  10. Tonya, thank you for sharing. Blessings.
