Advent 1 – Hope Waits

Friends, an invitation?  Join me here each week as we enter this season of Advent.

Fourteen, no more than fifteen and eyes looking wide with hope.  A new life, a new path, a new journey Betrothal , an expected union.  Hope in a future with a husband loved well.  Hope in a new family blossoming within the covenant of marriage.

Fourteen, no more than fifteen and heart flutters hope.  Waiting to bear witness with vows made in front of God and family.  Preparing, waiting to meet her bridegroom in the splendor of a bride.  Anticipation of promises and of love that cherishes.

Fourteen, no more than fifteen and breath catches –hope?  Really?  Waiting for impossibility this is hope?  Waiting for extraordinary, hope quickening life?  All of this heaven hope decreed by an angel, Gabriel.

Fourteen, no more than fifteen and hope waits swollen.  Never having know a man’s touch, never having felt the kiss of union or the softness of lips on the curve of her neck.  Yet there she waits with hands cupped around life swelling.  Hands that hold  hope expectant.

“Don’t be frightened, Mary,” the angel told her, “for God has decided to bless you!  You will become pregnant and have a son, and you are to name Him Jesus.  He will be very great and will be called the Son of the Most high.  And the Lord God will give Him the throne of His ancestor David.  And He will reign over Israel forever, His Kingdom will never  end.”  (Luke 1:30-33)
